Leadership

Coach Steve Cuomo

Founder • President • Head Coach
The only time I want to know an athlete’s challenges is when I first meet them — so I can build the right training plan. After that, I want to know how fast they can run.

When Coach Steve brought his son to compete at the Special Olympics in the mid-1990s, he was told his son could not participate.
Instead of accepting the limitation, he envisioned something different — a fully inclusive running club where athletes with disabilities, siblings, and parents could train and compete together.
From that vision, Rolling Thunder was born.

Competitive Impact

Under Coach Steve’s leadership, Rolling Thunder athletes have competed in national and regional mainstream competitions including:
  • USA National Junior Olympics (2009, 2010, 2011)
  • U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Championships (2010)
  • Multiple USA National Championships
  • Regional mainstream competitions across the country
Each year, Rolling Thunder athletes place in top mainstream divisions — not separate categories.
