Public Charities – Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection
The Department of Consumer Protection is responsible for administering the Connecticut Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act. Registered charities must file annual financial reports on their income and expenditures. Charities must register with Public Charities before any type of solicitation in Connecticut. It is a violation for any person to misrepresent the purpose or beneficiary of a solicitation; any person to misrepresent the purpose or nature of a charitable organization; any charitable organization or any person while engaged in the conduct of the affairs of a charitable organization to engage in any financial transaction which is not related to the accomplishment of its charitable purpose, or which jeopardizes or interferes with the ability of the charitable organization to accomplish such organization’s charitable purpose; any charitable organization to expend an unreasonable amount of money for solicitation or management.
USATF requires USATF registered coaches, club coaches, club leadership (i.e. club president, treasurer, administrators, secretaries) and any other person who has authority over or contact with any athlete during practices, race events, etc. to be USATF 3-Step Safe Sport Compliant.

Responsibilities of the Directors of Not-For-Profit Corporations The board of directors of a nonprofit organization operating in New York State has a duty of obedience to ensure that the organization complies with its mission and its internal governance documents and policies, including complying with all appropriate laws, registering and filing annual financial reports with the NYS Charities Bureau and complying with similar laws in other states in which it conducts activities and/or solicits contributions.
